If you find a hedgehog in need of help, these people have asked to be included in the directory of hedgehog rehabilitators.  As we do not have the facilities to check carers we are unable to recommend them and they are not representatives of the British Hedgehog Preservation Society. 

However, they may be able to offer advice and even take in the patient.   Most are volunteers and do not receive any formal funding.  Please remember these people often work from home and do many unpaid hours so your consideration for their time is much appreciated. 

Please note this is only a short list for emergencies, we do have more people on our main list that we use for phone queries (01584 890 801).

If a number is unobtainable or you find a person has stopped taking hedgehogs in it would be helpful if you could let us know so we can chase them up or delete them from the list.

If there is not a local carer listed for your area then call the British Hedgehog Preservation Society during office hours or out of hours call one of the following.  These are experienced hedgehog rehabilitators who will be able to give basic first aid advice and will also have a more comprehensive list of hedgehog rehabilitators. Grants available for carers

Good news! Some carers who are BHPS members may be eligible to apply for a grant from the Society to help them carry out their work.

This is a welcome move that hopefully will enable dedicated carers, who are experiencing financial hardship, to be able to look after hedgehogs without any additional money worries.

Expenses incurred from food, drugs, cages, vet visits, etc. can be recouped.

Applications should be made to the BHPS in writing, and to make the process run smoothly, please include receipts or bills. Payments of up to £50 will be awarded where appropriate.

Vets bills, food, shelters, etc. can all add up to costing quite a lot. By introducing the grants scheme to members who are rehabilitators, the BHPS hopes to further help the excellent and dedicated work done by so many carers.

Carers who are listed on BHPS directory may be eligible for a free electric heat pad if they do not already have one.  Contact us for more info.
